Photo #30250

This is the reaction I had today from the operator of this lorry when I took this photo of him while he was transferring pallets of bricks over the cycle path. The pallets were being lifted off one end of the lorry or trailer and being swung round over the cycle path - in the photo you can see a strut coming out of the left side of the lorry onto the path. Normally I would expect such procedures to require closing the cycle path and for barriers to be placed to protect the public.

He shouted at me from the controls of the crane, parked the crane, got down and is shown running towards me demanding that I delete the photo.

He claimed that I was 'violating his human rights' by taking a photo of him, and that he was going to call the police. I said I'd be happy for the police to be called.

His reaction clearly demonstrated to me that he knew he should not be operating his vehicle over the pavement cycleway here. He called me a name and was initially very threatening and intimidating.

I have blurred out the face and the details on the lorry. I am not planning to take the issue further as my hope is that he'll realise that there is a proper place for moving goods around. But I shall follow it up if I see this happening again.

Feedback from a viewer says:
"I'm not sure that closing the path and erecting barriers is necessary with
the traffic level being fairly low, although an assistant would probably be
a good idea to ensure safety - BUT he should certainly have used a pad under
the jack leg to protect the surface of the path."
