Caught! - One of the photomap's original authors (Simon) made this prohibited right turn and accepts that he has to pay the £60 fine (double or triple if late).

Note: before paying the fine I did some research, and found some interesting case law to do with this junction. Someone had driven straight across the road here and stopped at the pavement. They then reversed to the left and went forward to the right again, effectively doing a right turn.

In the case law that I found the judge decided that a right turn is one sweeping movement rather than several individual movements, and so the driver was let off!

Since reading that I've noticed drivers performing exactly that manoeuvre at this junction. What a marvellous thing is this human nature!

Why did I make the turn, even though I knew it was not allowed? Well I so rarely drive these days, and I knew my way through here on a bike, it was a late Sunday afternoon, and my waiting to turn right here wasn't going to hold anyone up - and I didn't realise I was being watched so closely.
